MY PERCEPTION OF ART


For me, my art mirrors my deepest feelings or emotions at any given moment or a certain context. The emotions and the visual stimuli that led to the emotion coalesce and crystallize into the image that gets transferred onto the canvas. My theme differs from painting to painting and is the product of the sublimation of my thoughts and feelings in a given context. There is often a fusion of the past and the present, of myth and reality, of the ideal and the actual. Visions of the past coalescing with the hard reality of the here and now.

The Charcoal drawing Journey

I have been passionate about creating charcoal drawings since my college days. Charcoal, a versatile drawing medium made from charred wood or other organic materials, is primarily used on textured surfaces like paper. Its rich, dark tones, ease of blending, and ability to create dramatic contrasts—from subtle grays to deep blacks—make it a favorite among artists. Among the various types of charcoal available, my preferred medium is compressed charcoal, as I enjoy working with bold, dark tones. However, compressed charcoal is not limited to creating dark values; it also allows for a range of tones, from light to dark. In addition to compressed and vine charcoal, black and white charcoal offers further creative possibilities. He embodies both asceticism and cosmic energy, and one can see a serene expression on his face. Traditionally, lord Shiva is represented with flowing hair adorned with the crescent moon, exuding tranquility and power. Many artists have created their own interpretations of Shiva. In my painting, I have depicted my own version, focusing more on the technical aspects rather than a realistic depiction. The color scheme primarily features muted tones of grey and blue. To create texture on the canvas, I used a palette knife in some areas to bring vibrancy to the artwork.
